"Discharge from Cardiology with heart failure"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Cardiology Ipswich Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a service user),

My mum who is in her 80's has stage 4 heart failure. She’s on a cocktail of drugs, one of which is a consultant only medication. There has been much confusion over the past few years over her care as she is also under the pacemaker clinic. Last year she was accidentally (their word) discharged from the department for heart failure. She has no access to a heart failure nurse either.

She has significant side effects from the Amiodarone. GP wasn’t familiar with them when I asked for a review. One of them is balance issues and she’s had multiple falls. They referred her back into cardiology last Nov, they suggested stopping the Amiodarone to see how she went- but given it would not be checked this was not sensible and it was a 43 week wait to be seen. She’s had multiple falls since and I called cardiology with no progress. I was promised an appt late June- a month ago.

Disgusting lack of care- I believe it’s nothing to do with funds it’s incompetence. She’s recently had another fall and we had to go to A&E.
