My wife was diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer's in November 2021 at the EIDS at Kidderminster Hospital. As the condition progressed towards the end, our local GP practice tagged her as "Palliative" and "Housebound" at appropriate times, then provided a hospital be at home and eventually started end-of-life visits by our District Nursing team.
At a later point, the Palliative Nurse from our GP practice judged that it was time to start the introduction of Medazolam via a driver, along with other drugs all of which had to be managed only by qualified Senior nursing staff.
She was 11 days from dying at that point. In the background, some wonderful soul applied for CHC funding via the FastTrack process and we were never once bothered with any need to sign or fill forms, something we thank the NHS for and wish we knew who personally to thank!
The main point of this feedback is to state how absolutely magnificent the care my wife received in the final 11 days of her life from the Wyre Forest Team of Community Nurses and Carers.
If I were asked to give them points out of 10, I could not give them less than 11/10, as they all, to a person, provided so much more than care and nursing at such a difficult time.
The private care company did take over "care" in the last 36 hours and I would say they were 8/10 and perfectly wonderful, just to make the point about the Wyre Forest Team!
Thank you, there were many and I know that many different people visited us at all hours of the day.
