My Dad is over 70 years old and was in A and E for 31 hours with a clot in this upper leg. He was left in the waiting area for the majority of this time and was in pain. He asked for pain relief at 2pm and it wasn’t given. When I arrived at 10:30pm I had to ask again. His leg should have been elevated and it was not.
When the doctor saw him in the morning of the second day at around 9:30 he had to wait until after 22 to get blood tests done and the wait a further 3 hours for the results. This standard of care is unacceptable and while I appreciate that the department is busy and the staff are under pressure he could have been brought a wheel chair with an area to place his leg on and been given pain medication to help.
The reception staff were however amazing as were the radiographers who carried out X-rays and scans.
