"The teamwork and dedication were inspiring to witness"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C5 Gastroenterology/Medical

(as the patient),

I just wanted to come on here and write a truthful story about my time in C5 AAH. I was admitted with liver issues and quite unwell, I was anxious, scared and worried about what was going to happen. I too work in healthcare so I was apprehensive of going in as a patient. The level of care I received from the nursing staff was next level. They were kind, professional and compassionate (and made me laugh). Writing this and thinking back to when in hospital is actually making me tear up because I can’t remember some of their names but I will never ever forget how they made me feel.

What I loved to see was that the nurses had support from each other and the charge nurses. There was a lovely male nurse Tyler, who collected me from my procedure and he was just a great reassurance to me, I will never forget his smile and kind words, a lovely caring person inside and out. Megan and Lauren, two lovely girls who cared for me and were so kind and caring. Susan and Donna for answering all my questions and being so kind. So many others but I can’t remember names.

The nurses and care assistants teamwork and dedication were inspiring to witness. Even during busy shifts, they made sure I was comfortable, answered my questions, and always checked in with a smile. It’s clear that they love what they do, and that passion shines through in the way they care for others. It’s an extremely busy ward, people coming and going and I can see the pressure that the staff face but they never show it. Some of the patients in that ward however, very challenging behaviour and to see them dealing with that throughout my whole stay was a hard watch, I hope they get good support because that was hard to see.

I want to thank all of the staff on that ward especially the nurses, care assistants, and the wonderful doctors!
Please never give up even on your hardest days.

Dear Alphaqf34

Thank you for your very kind words regarding your care while an inpatient in C5. As the Lead Nurse I am very proud of the team and the service they provide under what can be challenging conditions and your positive comments are testament to this.

I have shared your feedback with the team and we all wish you good health and hope you are recovering well!

Warmest Regards

Niall Gallagher
