"They could not have been more caring or professional"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Gynaecology (Ward 49) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Pre-Operative Assessment The National Complex Mesh Surgical Service Outpatients (New Victoria Hospital)

(as a service user),

I first attended an out patient appointment at the New Victoria hospital October 2024 to see Dr Guerrero due to a TV tape erosion.

All staff treated me with the utmost dignity and respect during this appointment.

Dr Guerrero explained all my options carefully and followed this up with written information and diagrams.

I then spent some time with a  specialist physiotherapist which I found really helpful in understanding the recovery process post surgery.

Once I made the decision to go ahead with surgery I then attended pre assessment at Queen Elizabeth hospital Glasgow.

The information I was given really helped to prepare me for surgery. I would be travelling from the Scottish Borders and this was taken into account with recovery and discharge relieving some of my anxiety around travelling home.

I had my surgery in early May 2025 when I was admitted to the day surgery unit. There I was seen by the anaesthetist who was extremely kind and helped put me at ease.

Unfortunately Dr Guerrero was not available for surgery and I met briefly with Dr Revicky who performed my excellent surgery.

Post op I was transferred to ward 49 where I was looked after by a team of the most kind and caring staff. Dr Revicky came to see me and the following day I was discharged home. Prior to discharge I had a long chat with the specialist physiotherapist and she went over all my post of instructions as well as giving me telephone appointments.

I have had regular contact with specialist nurse and physio since discharge.

The national mesh service in Glasgow ,which covers the whole of Scotland, is outstanding. Everything was explained to me in great detail and I was given time to ask questions. Travelling from the borders was not an issue for me as I understand the importance of a centre of excellence to provide first class care. Every healthcare professional I had contact with could not have been more caring or professional.

At a time when the issues around this mesh is in the media I hope my review can help relieve some anxiety of other patients with similar issues.

Therefore I would just like to list the areas and say thank you for providing outstanding care to me.

Dear Craterpx53,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a lovely care opinion about your gynaecology care within the National Mesh service in Glasgow

It can be really difficult travelling away form home for treatment. It's great to hear about your whole journey from your first appointment with Dr Guerrero and the specialist physiotherapists to pre op and then Dr Revicky and finally onto ward 49 for your post op care, where you were shown outstanding professional care throughout.

I'm glad everything was explained well to you throughout and that staff were caring and helpful and as you say hopefully this will relieve anxiety for others who are due to attend the mesh service despite the media attention.

Please be assured your thanks will be passed onto all the relevant teams.

Wishing you a smooth ongoing recovery back in the beautiful Scottish Borders,

Best Wishes,

Fiona Proctor
