In the early hours of Saturday in early July 2025 I woke with total lack of power on my left side, my speech and face was also affected. As soon as my partner realised I had stroke symptoms she immediately rang 999, where she was treated with total respect and reassurance by the call handler, this was at around 4 am.
Within 20 minutes an ambulance had been dispatched and arrived at my address. On arrival in my bedroom both paramedics diagnosed the stroke symptoms and immediately prepared me for the journey, all the while reassuring me by their confidence that thanks to my partner the stroke was got in the early stages.
I found myself in The South West Acute Hospital Enniskillen where a medical team were awaiting my arrival, a team which I can’t explain the caring attitude of each and everyone who prevented my stroke from evolving into a full blown stroke.
A few hours later I was admitted to Ward 5, commonly known at the Stroke Ward. The exceptional care which I received from the staff on Ward 5 was second to none, no task was too much from each and every one, including the Doctors, I potentially owe them my life. It would be remiss of me not to thank the campaigners who fought a long hard battle to keep the Stroke Unit in Enniskillen open, when the powers that be thought it would be a good idea to put saving money ahead of saving lives.
Thanks
"The exceptional care I received was second to none"
