"My wife’s hip replacement"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a carer),

My wife is in her late 70s and in addition to a need to have her hip replaced, has various other health problems, both physical and an age related mental problem. I am her sole carer. It had become very important that her hip was replaced, but despite doing all the things required prior to her operation well, I was still stressed and concerned.

As it turned out everything (well almost) went very well. The doctors, nurses and everyone else were wonderful. There was a quiet efficiency and lovely mood of the staff within the PEOC, which raised my mood. This was even after my wife had a morphine complication and spent the night in ICU.

We departed, with myself in a much better mood and feeling more confident with having to cope with my wife’s convalescence despite her dementia. The only problem left was that I could not thank all of the staff involved and had to be content to just say a heart felt thank you for everything to a just a few

Hello hadarjz43

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It’s truly inspiring to hear how well your wife’s operation went despite the challenges, and how the care team’s kindness and professionalism made such a positive difference for both of you. I can only imagine how demanding it must be to be her sole carer, especially with her health and dementia.

I will be sure to share this with the team, as it really highlights the incredible care and compassion provided, and I know it will please everyone to see how much their hard work means to those they care for.

Best Wishes

Clarice Chisling de Burgh
