I spent 2 weeks in Forth Valley Royal Hospital following hip fracture surgery. The surgical care was excellent, and post op physiotherapy very helpful and supportive. I was provided with a leaflet illustrating exercises following hip surgery for the immediate recovery period and details of a community rehabilitation service, but at discharge home, no further information was offered.
With no follow-up planned, it would have been very helpful to have a copy of a discharge summary that indicated what was expected of my GP and what to expect in the weeks following discharge, including whether walking or other exercise is recommended, when to worry and what goals to aim for in recovery.
I found some information online with a useful leaflet that was available from a Welsh hospital. The ReACH team's physiotherapist was also very helpful when I asked for a phone call for advice.
It would be great if FVRH provided something similar to this information leaflet as the early time at home can be quite a challenge. Saying that I am very grateful for the treatment I received and thank all the staff for their care.
