"I feel I have been dismissed"

About: Breiwick House / Health visiting General Practices in Shetland

(as a service user),

Was advised by my health visitor that if I wanted to get help for my new-born daughter’s reflux. I was to contacted the GP. Contacted the GP in Lerwick, Shetland by using the ask my GP form (the method the practise want you to use to contact about appointments). Put a request in o middle of July, first thing. Never heard anything back until 4pm ish to say that my child wasn’t registered on the system, and was asked to confirm my address.

Messaged back and said they should be on the system as I handed the form in when she was 3 weeks old. Confirmed my address. Was then told my child's forms were sat in a tray as they were behind on admin. Was offered an appointment for the following day. But unable to go due to hospital app I have to attend with my child in Aberdeen. Messaged back asking for another appointment. A GP contacted me and said to consult with my health visitor as they have lots of helpful information on reflux. But they would ask reception to book me an appointment for next week if there was any available.

Feel like I’ve been failed. My baby is 5 weeks old - I thought they would be a priority to be seen.

In regards to the misplaced forms - initially I was told they were unsure where they were and what happened with them, and only informed later they had found them after a deep search. This concerns me about how me and my child’s information and data is stored and handled, especially since my child's registration form includes original documents from the registrars office which would have cost me a fee to replace. Thankfully the forms were found and no actual data breach happened, but this has caused me to lose confidence in how my data will be handled going forwards.

However the major issue is the fact that, despite having a newborn baby, there was a rejection by the GP to not even speak to me but to instead I feel fobbed off to my health visitor who had directed me to contact the GP for help in the first place.

It’s taken me 5 weeks to ask for help as I keep being told my child is doing as expected, dispute my concerns, and now due to my child's constantly projectile vomiting, not keeping milk down and being unreasonably unsettled for the whole 5 weeks, I felt it absolutely necessary to reach out for support and instead of getting help.

I feel I have been dismissed, overlooked and made to feel like none of the concerns for my child's health and my mental health are important.
