"Minor injuries unit experience"

About: South Tyrone Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit South Tyrone Hospital / Radiology

(as the patient),

Phone first minor injuries got back to me within 40 minutes of calling which is much quicker that if I were to head to a different hospital such as CAH.

I spoke to the receptionist who was very welcoming and kind towards me. I had 2 nurses look after me examining my injury before and after x ray both were beyond lovely, making jokes and being careful around my injury. These nurses had been working all day non-stop. I saw them when I arrived at 3pm before ringing and at 7.30 when I arrived to my appointment. I was being seen until after 9pm and these nurses were running round each bed continuously, they did not rush through patient care and kept composed, compassionate and caring with each individual that I witnessed.

I received great care and was well informed on how to take my future injections, how to use my equipment as well as giving me a future plan of care to ensure I’m healing correctly. I feel recognition for great treatment from the NHS to be worthwhile to highlight especially when staff are being so strained. To add, a student nurse was also present on the ward assisting the nurses and providing exceptional care to others.

I also attended x-ray in which I was seen to quickly and efficiently and received great care by the radiographer who kept me comfortable.

HI AimeeG,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to the care opinion site regarding your positive experience within the Minor injury Unit. The team aim strive to provide at all times high levels of care, regardless of the arrival load to the unit.

Our student nurses rotate into the department during their training for 6 to 8 week periods and the unit and team provide them with the knowledge and skills required for minor injury assessment and treatment.

We work very closely with the phone first team and x-ray to deliver our service to patients in a seamless manner.

I hope you are recovering well from your injury and thank you again for your very kind feedback, I will share with the staff.
