"Wrongfully diagnosed"

About: Community Services - Eastern / Physiotherapy Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I feel like I have been going around in circles from doctors to physios for the past 3 years. I have had sciatica, knee pain and hip pain. I have had severe pain in my left upper groin radiating down my inner thigh. My mobility for the past 3 years has been bad and I feel I have let my children down in this time. I had a kidney infection, followed by Lymphodemia and my mobility has decreased since April 24.

I now do not know when I need to go too the toilet, after 2 weeks I asked for antibiotics from the doctor as they offered me an appointment in 7 weeks, now they have messed up my meds.

A doctor advised me approx 3 weeks ago to go to A and E because of my symptoms and the nurse said she was wrong to send me,but let me see a doctor.

As per my recent letter I did not assume I had equina cauda syndrome it was put as my diagnosis from the hospital and this information was also sent to my doctor.

So the last letter from the doctor saying that I was worried I had this, I saw on My chart that was what my diagnosis was and also when speaking to the Dr. So as no one had told me initially I had to Google so the report is inacurrate. I have had sciatic pain but the pain in my groin and thigh is becoming unbearable and I feel like I am back to the start. This is effecting my relationships at home and at work as I am emotional and very snappy through pain.

Dear Jacedo

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback and I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing a lot of pain at the moment. Whilst the staff are usually quick to respond to Care Opinion feedback they also have clinical duties so they may not see this immediately.

If you are still in a lot of pain, or experiencing any incontinence or numbness please do re-present at A&E as soon as possible to have this reassessed.

I am including a link to our PALS and complaints page https://www.royaldevon.nhs.uk/patients-visitors/patient-advice-and-liaison-service-pals/complaints/ for reference.

Kind regards

Lisa

Dear Jacedo,

I am sorry to hear that you are still in pain which has affected your relationship at home and at work.

If you would not mind, kindly send me your details through my work number 01392 403516 or email at michelleann.cruel@nhs.net. Please write in subject line: Care Opinion Feedback - Jacedo. So I can escalate this to our medical team and we can look into your file and investigate what has happened.

I am hoping we can help ease the symptoms if not resolve your condition and bring clarity to the whole situation.

Thank you for taking time to write to us. This helps us to improve our services.

Kind regards,

Mitch
