My elderly mother-in-law was returning on the bus from a day shopping and on getting off the bus and crossing the street, she suddenly took ill and dropped to the ground. Thankfully an off duty nurse from the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast (Marcella M) was passing by in her car, and without hesitation pulled over and rushed to see if she could help. She was gentle, caring and able to calm the situation. She assessed my mother-in-law and advised her to attend the A&E Department for a thorough check-up. On doing this, my mother-in-law was admitted to the hospital for tests and treatment and the same nurse visited and followed up on her care while she was there providing the same gentle care and reassurance.
It truly shows that Nursing is not just an occupation but a vocation. There are still caring and compassionate people in this life who go above and beyond in caring for other people, even complete strangers.
