I was sent to a consultant at Hartlepool hospital when I was 20 for abnormal pelvic pain and bleeding. My consultant tried me on every medication under the sun over and over again until I begged for them to find the cause. I then had diagnostic surgery where I was diagnosed with endometriosis and endosalpingiosis. I was again put back on medication because they said it was superficial.
I started getting recurring cysts on my ovaries to the point of possibly needing one removed. At this point I was 21 and my doctor was pressuring me in to having a child to try treat the condition? I am a lesbian with no plans for children at this time and they had been told that countless times. I then got scared I would lose my chance to have children so I privately had my eggs frozen. It was hell and truly broke my heart to see the damage already done to my ovaries from the cysts. I was also found to have abnormal cells on my cervix which is a different infuriating story. At this point I was ready to do what needed to be done to help my pain and my consultant who was down playing my symptoms and experience this whole time decided to try find out it if was ‘ all in my head’.
I was then trialled on prostap injections to put me in to early menopause at 22. This seemed far too aggressive but I did it because he said he wouldn’t do my surgery if I denied his medical advice. After my second injection I was having problems with my vision, I went to get my eyes checked at a normal vision express and was told I needed an emergency referral to James cook because my optic discs were swollen, to put a scary long story short I now have a idiopathic intracranial hypertension caused by the prostap injections that I will have for life.
I told my consultant and he denied any evidence of that being the cause. It is a side effect listed on yellow warnings but not one that is told to people. After this I went to sign my forms for my surgery and he said that after this surgery he would be releasing me from his care and that I should go to a pain clinic. I had my surgery in 2024 at 23, the only thing he said to me when I woke up from surgery was that I was no longer his patient. I am absolutely appalled by his whole treatment of me but these are just the highlights. Thankfully my GP is amazing and has now referred me to a different hospital for proper care
"A truly awful time"
