"Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer survival"

About: Cancer Services Cancer Services / Haematology/Oncology Day Patient Unit General Surgery / Upper GI, Oesophageal and Hepatobiliary Surgery (Ward 11)

(as the patient),

In June 2018 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal cancer. The nature of the spread to other organs meant that surgery was not an option and the outlook was very bleak. I began palliative chemotherapy with the hope of extending my life by perhaps a couple of years when it was found that I was suitable for a new, at that time, treatment. That was a huge game changer in reducing the cancer which got me to surgery in March 2019 and while I am still being monitored there has been no evidence of recurrence of the cancer. Over that time I have had further surgical procedures related to having cancer in the first place and those have all improved my quality of life. I cannot speak highly enough about every aspect of my treatment and ongoing care for these last 7 years with NHS Tayside. I would not be here otherwise.
