"Renewal of contraceptive implant"

About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as a service user),

Visited recently to get my 3rd contraceptive implant and have the old one removed.

I'm starting perimenopause and had quite a few questions about keeping the implant and what else I might need to do over the next few years..

I saw Becca and she talked me through the procedure to remove my old implant and fit the new one. She gave me some really good insight around the implant, and answered all my questions around use with HRT etc.

She also let me know about the walk up smear test available at the RD&E, which is amazing as I'm due and I'm struggling to find a slot at my GP that fits with work. Top tip!

For the procedure itself she was assisted by Kayla and between the two of them I felt really comfortable and chatted throughout.

Slight pinch on the anaesthetic, but I felt nothing during the removal or fitting. I was really surprised how quick and easy that was - especially as it was my 3rd time.

I can't rate the service in Sidwell Street highly enough. I got really useful information which helps set me up for the next few years as well as getting my contraception implant which is the best choice for me - I suffered for decades with horrendous periods and the contraceptive implant has been great for me, with almost no periods at all for the last 6 years. Here's to another 3 years pain and period free!

Thank you so much
