"Last minute cancellation"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / Neurology

(as a service user),

Once again, I received a last minute cancellation of an obviously essential appointment, in response to a suspected stroke, due to presenting symptoms .

Neurological scan cancelled (by text) with no explanation and told to wait 21 days before chasing.

In my experience, this hospital is not fit for purpose. PAH is only capable of fulfilling its emergency obligations.

Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention.

I am deeply sorry for the distress caused by the last-minute cancellation of your neurological scan, especially given the serious nature of your suspected stroke symptoms.

Addressing Your Concerns

We regret the cancellation via text without explanation and the instruction to wait 21 days before following up. This falls short of the care and communication we aim to provide, particularly for urgent conditions.

Your perception that the hospital is not fit for purpose is concerning, and we take this seriously. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at paht.pals@nhs.net or 01279 827084 with details so we can investigate urgently.

Next Steps

We are continuously reviewing our appointment processes to ensure clear communication and prioritisation of urgent cases. Thank you for helping us improve. Please reach out to PALS to discuss further.
