I was a patient in the Wenns unit for 3 years I was assessed by cygnet team they accepted me and I was transferred here to Alveston. I am the ward gardener and have helped to prep the outside area for the carers bbq.
I'm heading to the garden centre to buy more flowers and compost I look towards going out as a group with ot and my peers to Blackpool.
The other thing is really to say thank you to the team for accepting me here and am also proud to say I'm working towards unescorted leave the services provided here are really outstanding and the staff are great. I have help to tidy my room, plan my day and budgeting and feel happy to have been accepted here thank you.
I like the layout of the ward lots of windows and natural light the domestics clean the ward daily and do outstanding job the nurses have a board in the day room write positive quotes and riddles about what national day. It is today is national kitten day lol
The day room TV is huge it's really big TV they have information boards with all sorts of useful information on about advocacy Community meetings surge menu of opportunity board also occupation ot board emphasising charity shop roles in community this is important in recovery to have the opportunity to give things back and aids re integration.
They explain that there is opportunities to join a gym go to the salon join a college and take swimming lessons there is a washing laundry room that patient access 2 per week 2 hour slots and they let us put the clothes out in the garden so that the clothes are dry in the sunshine.
Today I spent some time colouring some paper circles that will be made into badges to sell at the carer bbq they have smile faces and flowers too.
When I was in Arnold Lodge I took part in a peer support course and now I have been thinking about email to the expert by experience Raf. I'm hoping to explore the opportunities to possibly work with peer support expert by experience to try to help others meet new people and maybe get a job.
My last doctor said that I would make a ace peer support worker and it made me feel hopefully about my future and made me feel happy. Some of the other things Alveston offer are a massage lady who can go hand head foot back massage, a music teacher to learn new songs and make fun music & cds. They have a education teacher for maths and English yoga teacher and also a trained gym teacher who can use hospital gym with there is a dietician who offer support with loosing weight gaining weight people with diabetes also get help and support too also information re a gym diet.
There are lots of opportunities and fun things to do I have had lots of fun days out to various cafe's, a museum. I've been Matlock, an art gallery & Woolaton Hall. My best things about Alveston are the access to fresh air and gym and laptop and phone access.
I have a great relationship with my team and think they do a brilliant job they work hard to meet the needs of all there patients and try to keep everyone well and happy I have attended the surge meetings twice here but hope to join in more and get involved in more impact things and get some more extra curriculum side of things.
If I had one thing that I could change or include about Alveston I would have a spiritual care team imam there is a multi faith room so it's good how ever would appreciate extra support although I have been advised I can seek spiritual care in the community thank you for the help and support and care that I have received it has been emotional but now that I feel well it's been good time too thank you guys.
