(as a parent/guardian),

Home visit from Nichola (IDD Specialist Dietitian)

Our daughter had 5 feeds a day through a PEG. Due to her autism and general planning across the day it was getting increasingly difficult to manage to space these out and for her to engage in all her planned and unplanned activities. Issues were around pre and post feed anxiety leading to repetitive behaviours and language, affecting quality of life. As she had started to orally take a lot more fluids, we asked if there was an option to reduce to 4 feeds.

Nichola was so helpful in exploring all options alongside the impact on fluid intake, calories and nutrition. She made calculations to ensure that this could be safely managed. Also looked at changing flavours which was something our daughter had asked about and updated the GP, advising on monitoring nutrition / electrolytes through blood work. Our daughter now has 4 feeds a day with different flavours!

Overall a great outcome, thanks so much.
