"The staff were so caring, supportive"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Ward 2

(as a relative),

I would like to share my son’s experience in ward 2 SWAH. My son sustained a spinal cord injury in Australia in 2023.

His previous stays in other hospitals were just awful from the surrounding to the pure apathy of the consultant and team.

He was transferred to ward 2 in SWAH in October 2024 to await a bed in a private rehab unite in Sheffield. His stay in ward 2 was a total comparison to his previous stays.

The staff were so caring, supportive eager to learn his routine and provide an excellent standard of care. Not only did they listen to him and talked to him as an individual but understood him and the life he now faces and didn’t just see him as man in a wheelchair.

The team on ward 2 were excellent from the ward manager right down to the support staff. The nurses were exceptional and (I can’t name them all they are all excellent) always ready to help even when the ward was extremely busy and 9 times out of 10 it was very busy.

Dr Owshodi was such a blessing. Explaining everything and making himself available to discuss our queries.

My sons  case is very complex and he has a long road ahead but this team in ward 2 SWAH made this part of his journey a very positive one and we will be eternally grateful.
