"Discouraging primary care practices"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Orthopaedics (ward 4c) General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Orthopaedics New Stobhill Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a service user),

Having two disabling conditions (arm fracture, followed by colorectal disorder) I determined to move toward recovery with good humour. Treatment and ongoing diagnostic procedures were well and respectfully conducted. Despite what excellent specialist clinician described as a very challenging procedure requiring further investigation, her excellent quality of care kept me (and family) in good spirit, and resilient.

Unfortunately, recent alarming, humiliating events at primary care has undermined that resilience. Coping strategies have failed. I feel demotivated - have tried to resume recommended exercises & activities, but have lost heart. Not coping with pain. Fighting spirit is broken. And no, I do not want to pursue any futile exercise in contacting a Practice Manger, which would make things worse.

If those in Primary care  receptionists et al would only understand - when a  patient is trying their best, it is so easy to discourage, humiliate the patient; and to undermine the prospect of good clinical outcomes.

Dear disinfectantkq34

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sorry to hear about the distressing experience you’ve had in primary care.

Primary Care have their own system for managing feedback, concerns, and complaints. They are not registered to receive or respond to feedback received via Care Opinion.

I appreciate that you do not wish to speak to the Practice Manager, but you may wish to speak to the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS). You can contact them by telephoning 0800 917 2127 or through their website: https://pass-scotland.org.uk/

Kind Regards

Nicole
