"Autism & Learning disability support"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was admitted to the Sick Kids via ambulance after having an unprovoked first seizure at home.  My daughter has both Autism & a Learning Disability.  The care my daughter received was amazing. At such a frightening time we were treated with great kindness & understanding. From the 999 call hander right through to the ward staff. Every adaptation was made to make my daughter more comfortable and less scared. Everyone was just fantastic. Thank you.

Dear Gemini72,

Thank you for sharing your feedback about A & E at RHCYP.

I was sorry to read about your daughter's seizure and subsequent admission. I can imagine that this must have been a very scary time for you all. I am glad that all the staff you spoke with or met were able to show you such kindness, and also ensured that there were any adaptations to your daughter's care to make it less frightening for her.

I have shared your feedback with the team at RHCYP who I am sure will be grateful to read that their input was of such support.

I hope your daughter is recovering now,

Best wishes,

Claire

Hi Claire,

Thank you so much for your response. It was indeed a very frightening time for us all, but especially our daughter. I just wanted to show that despite any negativity often published by the media, there are amazing hard working people doing amazing work, often under huge pressure, and families with children who have complex needs that really appreciate them.

Thank you so much.
