I reached out desperately searching for help with past trauma, looking for any help in the form of coping strategies, new ways to approach problems.
I've a long list of mental health issues - including anxiety, depression, OCD along with ADHD and suspected ASD- and I was not be even offered a proper full assessment. Instead, I was basically told to go back to my GP and ask to be referred to a service offering CBT for ADHD. I'd specifically said CBT has not worked in the past!
I'm beyond frustrated as my mental health history alone should have warranted a more in-depth assessment of my needs rather than to be fobbed off. People reach out when they are desperately in need of help, answers, someone to talk to, to then be told to look elsewhere, I'm fortunate enough to have the drive to fight for the help I need, what if I wasn't a fighter?
I feel the service needs to give people the dignity and respect to fully assess their needs before rejecting help, instead of choosing 1 of their issues to quickly reject them by, take more time to fully assess an individual. Please do better!
