"This is like a door being opened for us"

About: Alzheimer Scotland - Action on Dementia General practices in Ayrshire & Arran Occupational Therapy / Ayr Hub

(as a carer),

My husband has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He slipped on the loft ladder and was at emergency for treatment last year. Another recent fall was falling off the bed. Our GP has requested an occupational therapist to visit our home to check what can be done for my husband in order to avoid any further accidents at home.

Natalia, an occupation therapist from NHS Ayrshire and Arran at Ailsa Hospital, cane to visit us at home. She checked to assess the situation around the home and made some appropriate suggestions for my husband. Since we are selling our house and will be moving to Glasgow shortly, we are unlikely to be able to implement all her suggestions.

Beside assessing the home safety situation, she is also concerned for our well-being, how we are managing with my husband's present situation. She suggested to us to meet up with the alzheimer society in Ayr. As we feel slightly apprehensive about meeting new people by ourselves, she has volunteered to take us there for the first time and introduce us to the organiser. Since then we have been weekly visitors and we thoroughly enjoy the support we get from the group activities.

As we will be moving to Glasgow shortly, Natalia even contacted the Alzheimer Group in Glasgow and put our name forward. We have been contacted by the Glasgow group and they are keen for us to meet and any help we might need settling in. Glasgow. This is like a door being opened for us. We were quite lost as to how we will manage in Glasgow by ourselves.

Furthermore, Natalia has also forwarded details of the department to contact for an occupational therapist in Glasgow. Hopefully to implement some safely measures in our new flat for my husband.

Words cannot be expressed how thankful we are to Natalia, she has done so much for us and she even went beyond her role of duty. She has helped us feeling more confident now knowing that we are able to get good support in Glasgow. She has put our minds at ease about moving to Glasgow.

All we can say is how grateful we are to have met such a fine, caring person. Honestly we have no idea to do without her help all along the way.
