"Laprascopic surgery"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Day Case unit

(as the patient),

Attended day case for surgery and prior to theatre was seen by a nurse who had such a kind and calm personality. I made sure to mention this to her personally. She is exactly the type of person you would want to be your nurse!

I had a fairly good experience with day case, all staff were friendly and knowledgeable!

I would like to mention one thing to be improved on. Although I assumed I would have a urinary catheter inserted for surgery, this wasn't mentioned and I forgot to ask beforehand. Nobody asked me to pass urine after surgery/ before I went home so again I didn't think to ask if it had happened.

It wasn't until I got home that I realised that a catheter had been inserted/removed. I appreciate this is may be an obvious thing to happen for surgery, but it would have made me feel better if it had been mentioned at some point, just as a heads up.

Apart from this - a positive experience!

Hello Anonfemale

Thank you for posting about your experience in the Day Case Unit.

I am delighted to hear that the nurse who admitted you was kind and calm, and that the staff were friendly.

In regards to the urinary catheter would you be able to contact the unit so that I may look into this further.

Thank you

Naomi Wilson
