I just wanted to send a big thank you to all the Urology department and Day Surgery staff who looked after me so well at the Queen Alexandra hospital in Portsmouth during a recent surgical procedure.
The surgery was very skilfully and benignly carried out under a general anaesthetic, preserving healthy tissue where possible. I'm very happy with the result, which cosmetically looks fine and should help prevent some future health issues from recurring, so my quality of life will now be improved. It is how I would have liked it to turn out if I'd been able to picture the outcome in advance, putting my mind at rest as I had been very nervous about the procedure beforehand.
I've had very little pain since the surgery and no post-op complications so far, and the recovery and healing up process are going well. I was given a good leaflet to follow for the aftercare advice. I'm optimistic about the future now.
I can't thank the brilliant, caring, friendly and professional staff and teams at the QA enough for helping to resolve an on-going medical condition that was getting me down and causing concern that it could lead to worse health complications. Also thanks to my GP practice for initially referring me to the hospital. Everything about the NHS has worked well for me in this case and I'll forever be grateful.
The staff at the day surgery were clearly under pressure to get a large number of operations completed during the day in question, which inevitably led to some delayed waiting times but I completely understand that this really could not be helped due to the pressure on busy staff and resources. All the patients awaiting surgery were kept well provided with water at hourly intervals which was welcome.
A bit of an update on how long I would likely have to wait would have been appreciated (I was waiting for about six hours after arriving in day surgery trying not to let the nerves get to me too much but without much else to occupy my thoughts), but I realise this isn't always easily predictable.
"Brilliant, caring, friendly and professional staff"
