I am writing on behalf of myself and my immediate family members. When my wife's mental health took a turn to the deepest levels myself and my daughter found it extremely alien and knew very little about what to do and what was going on. It was probably the lowest point of my life having to stand back and listen to some of the things my wife was doing and saying. It seemed like there was no end to this and no light going forward.
We were directed to help from the mental health team and at the first month it was difficult but at least we could see a route forward. Myself and my wife decided to go on holiday, which was probably not the best idea but being naïve I never saw the disastrous consequences that lay head. My wife had a full mental breakdown whilst on holiday and had to be sectioned on her return to the UK. This was extremely heart breaking and as I mentioned earlier the lowest point in my life and probably my daughter's. My wife did not recognise me as a trusted source and she would not even speak to me, let alone look at me which was destroying to say the least.
Eventually she was discharged home under the care of Sonia the health care worker. From not seeing a way out it soon became clear that things were looking promising. Sonia has had a major impact on us as a family in seeing things in a different light and learning to get awkward conversations off our chest and be more open about things. I am quite sure that without Sonia then we would be in a very sad place now.
Sonia has not only given us our life back but given something back that I certainly thought was gone. It just goes to show that with the right people stepping in and the real hard work of Sonia and the team, lives can be completely turned around. I really can't think Sonia enough for what she has done for our family, my wife and my mental health. Sonia is a real asset to the mental health team and our family's fortunes are the real proof of that.
Looking back a couple of years ago to now it is absolutely unbelievable to be in the position we are in and that is thanks to Sonia. We all owe a lot to Sonia and she will be long in our thoughts. Thank you, Sonia.
