"I felt completely safe and reassured throughout the entire experience"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Gynaecology (Ward 49)

(as the patient),

Following my diagnosis of breast cancer, I underwent surgery, radiotherapy, and hormone therapy. However, I was not succeeding in fully suppressing oestrogen hormone levels. As a preventative measure, I was advised to have my ovaries removed. ( +|- Hysterectomy)

I was referred by the Beatson to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where I was exceptionally well looked after by Dr Mackay. At that stage of my recovery, I was extremely anxious. Dr Mackay showed genuine empathy, reassurance, and an impressive depth of knowledge. Despite her busy schedule in an incredibly demanding department, she took the time to treat me as an individual. Her care meant a great deal to me.

I was then referred to Dr Watson, who performed my surgery, alongside Dr Raj, my anaesthetist. It was truly heartwarming to be cared for by such a professional, skilled , compassionate, and dedicated team. Even though my hospital stay was only 24 hours, I felt completely safe and reassured throughout the entire experience.

I am deeply grateful for the care and attention I received — and even more so for what may very well have been life-saving intervention.

In these incredibly stretched times within the NHS, my hope is that these outstanding professionals can get the support they need to continue to remain as dedicated and committed to providing the amazing standard of care I was fortunate enough to receive. Their work makes a profound difference in the lives of patients like me.

I'm so pleased to hear that you felt well supported and reassured during such an emotional and challenging time. It's wonderful to know that Dr Mackay’s empathy and professionalism helped ease your anxiety, and that the care provided by Dr Watson, Dr Raj, and the team left you feeling safe and confident.

I would also like to take this opportunity to recognise the nursing staff who supported your care during your stay, including Staff Nurses Ashley, Heather, and Karen. They will be so touched to hear that their work made a difference to your experience.

Your message has been shared with all the teams involved in your care. It is incredibly uplifting for staff to receive such appreciation, especially during these demanding times in the NHS. Feedback like yours reminds us why we do what we do.
