"Prophylactic Antibiotics"

About: Darent Valley Hospital / Maternity

(as a relative),

My daughter recently gave birth following IVF. Her waters broke and admitted to DV as high risk.

>24 hrs no offer of prophylactic antibiotics, which is standard in most trusts. When questioned by my it was dismissed as not protocol.

My daughter requested an epidural at 8cm, consent signed. No anaesthetist. Maternity nurse in charge apologised, head of departments apologised a datix to be done as no staff and unsafe.

I would like to know the outcome. Outcome, baby and mum contracted an infection placed on IV antibiotics, repeated bloods for both, kept in hospital. In babies notes ? Sepsis!

Life threatening events. Protocol needs to be revised, this could have been a positive post. The midwife who helped deliver was amazing, and was aware straight aware they were unwell.
