"Having to wait in pain and discomfort"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Trauma & Orthopaedics Occupational Therapy

(as the patient),

Needing 2 hip replacements. I am in my 70s and was active. Now have impinged nerve in lower back and one hip bone to bone.

In so much pain I don't want to wake up some mornings.

Been told surgeon has put me as urgent on his list, however as everyone goes on as urgent doesn't give me any hope.

Struggling to get out of seats, struggling to rise out of bed.

Shelagh from occupational health dept at our local Monifieth Tayside  health centre came out. That day I got a raised toilet frame and seat, and by the following week had a frame put on my bed to help. Both of these are such a help.

Unfortunately couldn't raise my settee as funny shaped legs so trying to look at other options ourselves.

Shelagh was wonderful. Very kind, professional and very good at her job.

Unfortunately since then due to walking issues with the hip I have fallen and badly fractured my small finger. An operation, pins and more recovery in front of me.

People having to wait in pain, discomfort and now fear are being treated so badly by an underfunded NHS.
