My GP suspected something was wrong when I went to him complaining about having to pee every hour during the night. He sent me to the urology department at the Western General Hospital for a scan. It revealed a large retention of urine in my bladder - unknown to me. This was apparently backing up into my kidneys causing loss of renal function. On the Thursday evening they inserted a catheter to drain my bladder properly. I was kept in on Thursday night and Friday night to monitor my various functions and discharged on the Saturday. My care was excellent. Everyone was so kind and so skilful. Now I have to get used to the catheter and await an operation on my prostate.
