Dear yellowpb48

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback after your extraction in our department. I am pleased this went well, with no problems and it is useful to know that we explain things well.

I'm sorry that you found the radio too loud. We have it on to try and support confidentiality within our treatment rooms which are in very close proximity to the waiting room. However we will talk about how we could better balance the need for sound in the waiting room with patient comfort while waiting.

Your feedback has been invaluable in sparking off discussion around this issue, so thank you once again.

Dear yellowpb48, I just wanted to pop back and update you following your recent feedback.

Our team of dental nurses have had a time of discussion and reflection on the use of the radio in our waiting room. We have talked about how the sound can be upsetting when patients may already feel anxious or have sensory issues. We looked at ways we can help when a patient finds the sound to be intrusive. We have shared some ideas with the reception team and they will now check the volume (as sometimes other patients turn it up!), and offer a seat in a quieter area either at the other end of our department or in one of our quieter overflow areas.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It led to interesting discussion and as a result the reception team will feel empowered to offer a solution if a patient expresses discomfort caused by the sound of the radio in the future.
