"The birth I’ve always dreamed off"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Community Midwifery Unit

(as a service user),

I had amazing antenatal care from my midwife and continuity student Cheryl and Cat last year. Both were extremely attentive and understanding of my anxieties during pregnancy, answered all questions and made me feel listened to and safe throughout.

I was lucky enough to have both of them on when I went into labour in Perth. Cat attended to most of my physical care (listening in when required, taking obs, encouraging me to drink and pass urine, offered different positions and both Cat and Cheryl offered me excellent moral support and advice throughout my labour. Our beautiful baby boy was born in the pool and delivered to us by Cat. My entire experience was exceptional start to finish.

I was seen during the postpartum period by both Cheryl and Cat again and ended my pregnancy on a high with excellent support from both.

Would highly recommend not only birthing in Perth but having a student involved in your care was a next to none experience. Cat was consistently supportive and caring the entire time. Respected my wishes and advocated for what I wanted during my birth.

Cheryl treated me with kindness and exercised her excellent knowledge throughout my entire pregnancy. Her breastfeeding support was invaluable and started off our journey positively. Both excellent the entire time.

Hello Kb89ca

Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby boy.

We are so delighted to hear of your experiences and the impact continuity of care had on your ante natal, labour and post natal care. As a team we strive to give the best care possible, we are a teaching hospital and we support and encourage our midwifery students to care for women, alongside their named midwife, to really see and experience the benefits of continuity of care for women and their families.

It is so reassuring to hear you describe how Cheryl and Cat, both contributed to the care you were given. Care that we give, ensuring you feel supported, informed, involved, respected as well as you describing Cheryl and Cat being your advocate. For Cat supporting you and delivering your baby to you, must have been so special for all.

It is such a pleasure to read your kind and informative feedback, and I know how happy Cheryl and Cat will be that you have taken the time to provide these kind comments. I will share your feedback with the team also.

We truly love our roles as midwives, and we appreciate and value the impact midwives can have on the women and families we care for.

Hopefully your beautiful baby is keeping you active, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Best wishes

Lauren Cameron, Senior Charge Midwife, Perth Midwife Unit
