I arrived at the Day Surgery Unit at 7:15 AM for my gallbladder removal, feeling quite anxious and apprehensive. However, I was warmly welcomed by the receptionist and nursing staff, which helped to alleviate my nerves.
I was promptly escorted to the ward by two nurses, Elaine and Marie, who immediately put me at ease when I expressed my concerns about my anxiety. As the first patient of the day, the ward was relatively quiet at that time. However, just before 8 AM, the atmosphere shifted dramatically as the unit became bustling with doctors attending to other patients preparing for surgery.
My surgeon, Mr. Murray, along with Dr. Chi, took the time to speak with me, thoroughly explaining the procedure and encouraging me to ask any questions I had. Although my original surgeon, Mr. McMillan, had changed, I appreciated Mr. McMillan's visit, which further alleviated my anxiety.
Anaesthetic nurse Amanda accompanied me to the anaesthetic room. I am incredibly grateful for her comforting words and attentive care, which made a significant difference in how I felt as I entered the anaesthetic room. Along with Amanda, William reassured me that he would be there to look after me throughout the procedure. Thank you so very much.
The surgery lasted approximately four hours, after which I was returned to the ward. Nurses Elaine and Angela attended to me, ensuring my comfort and offering me water. Later, I was provided with a sandwich and two cups of excellent tea accompanied by biscuits.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Elaine and Angela for their exceptional care during my time in day surgery. Additionally, I want to thank all the staff in the unit for their dedication and compassion. You transformed what could have been a daunting experience into a positive one through your outstanding care and attention. In my opinion, you are all true angels and invaluable assets to the NHS. Thank you once again for everything.
"Outstanding care and attention"
