"Birth of second child"

About: Maternity Care / AMU (Alongside Midwifery Unit) Maternity Care / Antenatal Maternity Care / Labour Ward

(as a relative),

We came to UHW to have our second child,  in mid June 2025. Having had an emergency c-section with our first child we were aiming for a V-bac. After a full night of labouring it was clear that things weren’t progressing and the decision was taken to have an emergency c-section again. The care we received from start to finish was excellent and all members of NHS staff that we encountered were a credit to the service. The midwife that looked after us overnight was Justine. She was great! She was very kind and understanding, had a calming influence and left my wife to do her thing as much as possible.

We were transferred to the labour ward in order to get the epidural, and again the anaesthetist (Rachel and Sarah) and nursing staff were first class. They were professional, efficient and compassionate.

During and after the c-section we were looked after by midwifes Carol and Emma (student). The care that both Carol and Emma gave us was outstanding and we are extremely grateful.

The consultants (Dr Malcolm and Dr Anna Dixon?) were clear and informative when briefing us on the c-section process and recovery.

The staff that looked after us in the post natal ward were also excellent. They were very thorough with supporting my wife’s recovery.

All of my wife’s wishes for birth and recovered were considered, and were possible, facilitated.
