"Incredibly valuable and beneficial resource"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Parkinson's Service

(as the patient),

I have just finished the 11 week Power Up course in Barnstaple, which is run by Suzanne.  The aim of the course is to introduce Parkinson's patients to the benefits of exercise and we had the chance to try circuit training, Pilates, PD Warrior and Nordic Walking.  Each weekly sessions lasts about two hours, consisting of one hours exercise and then a talking session delivered by Suzanne or a guest speaker covering various topics such as medication or lived experience of Parkinson's.

Partners and carers have their own session for an hour and then join in for the talking session.  I was very apprehensive about going but am so glad I did; the benefits are enormous both mentally and physically; the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation is so valuable.  It was lovely to see friendships forming during the course and to see people new to exercise enjoying and benefitting from the experience.

I can't thank Suzanne and her wonderful team enough for the opportunity to take part in the course, it seems to be unique to North Devon and is an incredibly valuable and beneficial resource to Parkinson's patients in this area.

Dear Phoenix1961

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about your experience of attending Power UP! I appreciate that it takes a lot of courage to turn up to a new group and I am so pleased that you overcame your apprehension and came along. I am delighted to hear that from attending you have felt enormous benefits to your physical and mental health. If you haven't already please take the time to join the Northern Devon branch of Parkinson's UK this is a great way to keep in touch with people socially.

Many thanks

Suzanne
