"Cancer and how it affects me."

About: Palliative Care / Macmillan

(as a service user),

As part of my experience I was referred to the Macmillan One to One Team. I have had phone calls and home visits from the team so they could find out more about the man behind the cancer. Since then I have taken part in several coffee and chat events where you can meet other patients and chat informally about anything. There are also sometimes specialists on hand to discuss other health or money/benefit issues one may be having.

Through talking about my lack of mobility I was referred for chair exercise classes. I have since attended a couple of these classes which I have found to be fun and hopefully beneficial in the longer term.

My overall view of the One to One Team is very positive, all of the Macmillan staff are wonderful and very helpful. I am actually surprised that I have not heard of them prior to my illness, I would have thought that such an influential team would have been well known.
