"Bowel Cancer Screening Programme"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

Did one of their preventative screening samples and it came back needing further investigation!

I got a letter back telling me with a note to say I'd be contacted shortly with a view to arranging an appointment. I could arrange it by telephone, video or face to face. I felt better doing it face to face as I could more easily take notes. I got a call to book an appointment. Lady was pleasant and listened, so Boston it was. Of course by this time I'm getting concerned, why is there blood in my poo!

On the day I was taken to see Stephanie. Within a few minutes I was put at ease about the procedure (Colonoscopy) that was needed. It doesn't hurt like the one to take samples from your Prostate! Ask any bloke who's had this done they will fear a repeat!

Steph listened and arranged the procedure as early as possible so as not to clash with another vital Heart procedure that was already scheduled. By the time my "interview" was over we were laughing and joking about the whole situation, as a former Military you get that sense of humour.

When the Procedure was undertaken the staff were attentive, caring, professional and co operative. I got sedation like I wanted and painkiller for one episode of discomfort. They were patient and talked me through. I could tell that they were looking after me. Blood pressure checks regularly, etc. I was that relaxed about it i ended up watching the screen and talking to the "driver" Amanda.

After the procedure my "post" examination care was second to none, even down to the follow up telephone call when it was apparent that the caller hadn't just got my name to call but had my notes in front of her.

The Endoscopy dept at Boston Pilgrim are a credit to the hospital.

Dear Lancsman

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback with us following your visit to the Endoscopy suite at Pilgrim Hospital for your Bowel Cancer Screening colonoscopy. We appreciate that from the time you receive the Test Kit can be a very anxious phase for our patients. I was therefore very pleased to read how well Specialist Screening Practitioner Stephanie was able to support you with all the information, and put you at ease during the initial clinic meeting. Also during your colonoscopy you felt reassured and care for by the whole team.

I have shared your lovely feedback with both the Lead Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner and the Endoscopy Sister and have asked them to pass your kind words onto all the staff involved.

Kind regards,

Karen
