"Planned C Section Experience"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

After having a pretty traumatic birth which ended up in an emergency c section and being really unwell with my first child, I decided to opt for a planned c section for the birth of my second.

First of all Dr Scott who I saw in my pregnancy was lovely, I felt she had read through all my notes from my first birth and helped me make my decision on going for a planned section this time around!

On the day itself I cannot even put into words how different the two experiences were. From the moment me and my husband arrived at the maternity hospital we were greeted by Caroline and student midwife Bella who were so so lovely. I was very anxious due to my previous experience and they were so kind and just lovely!
When we were taken down to theatre I was a nervous wreck, I’m not an anxious person normally but I felt like my feelings from my emergency section were flooding my mind and making me stressed!
I was greeted by Moria the anaesthetist and she was just simply amazing! She could tell I was stressed out and knew exactly what to say and made my experience so positive. She held my hand and explained everything that was happening and reassured me throughout. Both my husband and I were blown away with how good she was!
When I went into recovery I had a lovely two hours of skin to skin and cuddles with my new baby which I hadn’t been well enough to do with my first.
Even though I was very anxious, I feel this whole experience was the healing I needed from my first birth. It meant I was able to go into newborn life with a more positive outlook, not exhausted and unwell.

Also all the staff on Ashgrove ward were amazing too! An all round extremely positive experience.

I look after the theatre team that looks after our service users in the peri-operative environment.

First and foremost, congratulations on the birth of your baby! I hope you and your little one are settling into this new chapter with plenty of love, rest, and joyful moments. It’s heartening to hear that this birth experience brought you the healing and reassurance you needed after such a difficult first time. Your strength and openness in sharing this journey are deeply appreciated.

I’m so pleased to hear that Dr. Scott, Caroline, Bella, Moira, the theatre team and the team on Ashgrove Ward were able to support you with such compassion and care. It’s clear they made a meaningful difference, and I will make sure your kind words are shared with each of them and the wider team—they will be so touched to know the impact they had.

Thank you again for your generous feedback. Wishing you and your family all the very best as you embrace life with your new arrival.
