About: University Hospital Monklands / Urology (Ward 6) Victoria Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Was admitted to Monklands hospital in August 2024 with kidney failure Diagnosis with an  enlarged prostate was in hospital for seven days had a catheter fitted to relieve the pressure on my bladder Went back in September for TURP surgery the operation was unsuccessful was referred to NHS Fife for HoLEP surgery Operation took place in July 2025, it appears to have been a success although I still have a catheter fitted I have a further appointment to  have it removed The care I have had at both hospitals has been excellent I have also been kept informed about the progress of my treatment and any time scales advised have been met

Thank you kindly for sharing your story regarding your experiences within both NHS Fife services and Monklands hospital.

I am sorry to hear that your TURP procedure was unsuccessful however I am delighted that NHS Fife were able to offer the HOLEP procedure as an alternative, and also of which appears to have been successful!

We as a Urology service are delighted that we are able to support men not just within Fife but also across Scotland as a whole. NHS Fife continues to lead the way in treating enlarged prostates and we are proud that we can share this with other healthboards and their service users.

Your feedback demonstrates a streamlined service where you have been kept well informed and set time scales have been met. It is reassuring to know that overall your care at both hospitals has been excellent and you have received care of a high standard.

The Fife urology team and I wish you well and hope the rest of your recovery is uneventful.
