I brought my elderly mother, to the Medical Physics Department at the University Hospital of North Durham for a DaTSCAN at the beginning of July. My mother is currently very confused and forgetful with suspected dementia. The team that cared for her that day were nothing short of outstanding with the care, compassion and patience they showed her throughout the day.
During the scan my mother became very distressed and agitated and would not cooperate – this was a very difficult situation, but the calm and professional approach from the team, working together, managed to reassure her; they went above and beyond to make sure the scan was a success and that she was calm and settled throughout. If you give out awards, each and every person I dealt with in that unit that day deserves one, from the receptionist (Linda – constant supply of tea, snacks and blankets!) to the technicians Joanne, Katrina and Mark. A special thanks to Joanne who really did do everything she could that day – what an amazing bunch of people!
