"Their care and expertise has been exceptional"

About: Trauma & orthopaedics / Orthopaedic National Treatment Centre

(as the patient),

I have just had my 3-month check with my hip surgeon, Mr Rehman. I am so grateful for the wonderful job he did replacing my left hip.

Within days of surgery I was able to walk unaided for over a mile. I love cycling, so my main aim was to be able to ride my bike again. Whilst cycling itself has never been painful, I was unable to lift my leg over the crossbar before the operation. After 5 weeks I was cycling again on a step through bike and 10 days later I was able to return to my own bike.

I realised a few days after surgery that I was enjoying walking again. Before the new hip, walking had become slow and sometimes uncomfortable but now I can happily keep up with my fit, 16 year old son.

So in summary I would like to thank all the staff at the National Treatment Centre at Kirkcaldy, and especially Mr Rehman. Their care and expertise has been exceptional and the new hip they gave me has transformed my life.
