"Auchinlea Resource Centre"

About: Auchinlea Resource Centre

(as the patient),

At the beginning of July I called Auchinlea Resource Centre as I had an appointment scheduled for the end of July. Unfortunately due to a sudden and unexpected bereavement of a very close family member the day prior, I contacted Auchinlea to rearrange my appointment for August or September onwards. I was told the secretary would call me back to discuss when they were free.

I knew myself that the probability of me attending my scheduled appointment is very low due to arranging the funeral, the legal and logistical process of that as well as the actual funeral.

I did not call them expecting or asking for an earlier appointment (because an earlier appointment is not needed). I was asking them to reschedule me for future months depending on the Consultants diary and so that they could cancel my appointment in July and offer it to another patient waiting. I tried through the whirlwind of grief and very difficult emotions to extend respect to the Resource Centre to be met with not an ounce of respect in turn. I didn’t have to call them. I could just not have shown up on the day.  I have had no contact with Mental Health Services since March 2025. The last contact being a scheduled appointment. There has been no calls either to Out of Hours Crisis Services since Mid March 2025 . Which says a lot on the stabilisation of the work I’ve put in to maintain my mental health. I just feel like I’ve tried to extend an olive branch to a service in respect for their time and mine as well as the appointment system to be stonewalled without so much as a call back. It’s honestly quite rude and disrespectful.

Dear SurvivingPsychiatry

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear about your recent bereavement and the difficult circumstances you faced when trying to reschedule your appointment at Auchinlea Resource Centre.

It’s completely understandable that, during such a challenging time, you would need to rearrange your appointment and I’m sorry that this wasn’t acknowledged in the way it should have been and that you were left feeling dismissed.

We aim to treat everyone with kindness and respect, especially when they are navigating grief and working hard to maintain their mental health. I appreciate you highlighting the progress you’ve made.

I will ensure your feedback is shared with the relevant team so we can reflect and improve how we support people.

Take Care

Nicole

Update posted by SurvivingPsychiatry (the patient)

Thanks Nicole for ensuring this will be passed back. Unfortunately even to the present day 6 days later I haven’t received a call back to tell me they are aware I have contacted them to cancel the appointment for the end of July. I have completely lost respect for the Centre on how they’ve dealt with this. I’m not wanting or making unreasonable demands. I’m letting them know I can’t make the appointment now weeks in advance to let them give what would have been my appointment time to another patient and schedule me for future months. I’m not demanding to be seen. Which still strikes me the wrong way. They could have said I appreciate you calling us reaching out and we will reschedule you for the Autumn. That’s fine. That’s acknowledgement.

Unfortunately I do not plan to re-engage with the service now. It proves my point that the Mental Health Services really do leave people when they’re struggling. This isn’t my first time being neglected by the system. So they can remove me from the patient list as I have no intention of attending future appointments either now.
