"I found the assessment to be lengthy"

About: Dementia and Older Persons Mental Health / North & East Memory Assessment Team

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was having problems with my memory and noticed a significant change after a recent hospital admission. My memory was quite different, and it wasn't just my memory; I also experienced other changes. I spoke to my GP, who conducted a B12 test, which came back normal. As a result, I was referred to the Memory Assessment clinic.

I found the assessment to be lengthy and had difficulty concentrating during it. The lady who conducted the assessment was nice, but it was challenging for me. Following the assessment, I had a CAT scan, and I have an upcoming appointment to discuss the results.

My daughter filled out the necessary form, which was difficult because it asked about what I was like 10 years ago. Some of the questions were slightly confusing.

I feel a bit anxious about the results, especially since my family has a history of brain tumors. However, I found the service from the Memory Assessment clinic to be nice and helpful.

Your feedback is helpful in us understanding the experience of our patients. The assessments can be lengthy and detailed, we are currently reviewing our process and considering using digital alternatives, which may help the lengths of appointments,. Thank you for taking the time to feed this back to us.
