"Birth of our baby girl"

We are blessed to have safely welcomed our baby girl into our family recently. And this is due to the exceptional team in the maternity unit in Altnagelvin area hospital.

Antenatal care with Dr Caoimhe was so helpful, attentive and reassuring. When I thought I was in labour the FAU midwife obliged me to come direct to the unit for a check. I was 4cm dilated and they were able to get me straight to the labour ward where I was so well looked after by the lovely midwife named Alice who was very reassuring and kept everything nice and calm.

Despite this after a few hours labour and at around 8cm dilated I required an emergency c-section under GA due to baby's heart rate suddenly and dramatically dropping and not recovering. Because of the quick acting, amazing teamwork and professional skills of the team, our little girl was delivered so quick and needed no special or extra care.

We would like to send our sincere thanks and admiration to the whole team for the incredible work you do. We also want to especially mention Alice who, even though it was past the end of her shift, stayed in theatre to help the team, keep my husband informed, and also took some very precious pictures of baby for us immediately after her birth (these are especially meaningful to us, as these moments were lost to us because I was under GA and my husband wasn't allowed into theatre).

The post natal ward team were also great, from the doctors who took time to talk us through all that took place, midwives who were very attentive and kind, and the friendly housekeeping and kitchen staff.
