"Certainly went to the right place!"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Breast surgery

(as a service user),

I'm writing to thank you for such a positive experience at Royal Devon Exeter (Wonford). From our first meeting with Mrs.Knight lead clinician/surgeon and her team of colleagues in breast care nursing, especially nurse specialist Dawn my husband and I felt completely comfortable, at ease with all advice and confident of our decision to follow the team's suggestion for many reasons specific to my unique circumstances, (post stroke) to have a mastectomy without reconstruction.

My day surgery hospital experience late May was five star!***** I found every team member exceptionally supportive, kind and of course professional. We were naturally thrilled with the follow up news on the Monday that the team got all the cancer with a good margin and lymphnoids are cancer free! Confirmation My breast is healing beautifully is a bonus and the scar which I only really saw upon returning home is far better than I expected and a great recommendation of Mrs.Knight's work... a master...It's very subtle and discreet and much appreciated by both myself and my husband a professional artist! I am polishing up my illustrated piece on the importance of mammograms and my subsequent mastectomy... Will send you a copy which I hope you will fact check before I submit anywhere for possible publication! (My experience has also led to a plot twist in a novel I'm currently writing). Thanks again to you and every member of the team, we're so appreciative!

PS. Also While it may seem trivial I must send special thanks and shout out to the providers of both my free drain bag which with my disability was crucial to my mobility at home and the incredibly sweet and most practical heart shaped stuffed pillow that I am still attached to both in the car to protect me from seatbelt pressure and in bed for more comfortable sleeping. The unexpected bonus was the relief it gave my concerned 94 year old mother in America to hear about the heart pillow, she said ”You certainly went to the right place!” My sentiments exactly!

In six weeks I return for a new prosthesis fitting which I appreciate coming under the wide umbrella of your care for me and my needs even as a discharged patient.

PS. Our only negative experience was receiving a parking ticket. As we didn’t understand/realise we needed to renew our blue badge disability parking permit with the hospital parking permit team. We have since done so to avert further charges. Although I realise this falls under another company’s jurisdiction the problem might be easily solved if this this is clarified when carers/drivers initially register with/on the hospital data base system. Thank you. This does not in anyway negate our positive sentiments about my hospital care.
