"I was made to feel like I mattered"

About: Causeway Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit

(as the patient),

I attended A&E minors with a finger injury which was causing me great distress, pain and concern after an accident.

I was seen promptly by the ENP Linda who very quickly assessed my injury, ordered an X-ray straight away and diagnosed a fracture. She gave me great reassurance, explained the nature of the injury really well and placed a splint on it, which has helped so much.

I left the department knowing what to expect in the coming weeks and was reassured that if there's any problems with my recovery I can get in touch for further assistance.

I was touched by her professionalism and compassion despite the number of patients she was seeing because the department looked so busy.

It might only be a broken finger in a department of people with much worse illnesses and ailments, but I was made to feel like I mattered, and in a time where the health service is getting so many negative reports, the good experiences need reported too.

I must give mention to the receptionist who got me booked on, she was really pleasant and the radiographer who put me at ease and she empathised with the injury I had sustained.

From the minute I walked in the door of the department until I left, I was treated with kindness, dignity and respect, I'm so grateful and keep up the great work!

Hello Big Tasty

My name is Victoria McCrory and I am the Assistant Clinical Services Manager for CAU ED. I also oversee the ENP service. I am sorry to hear that you have recently sustained an injury and had to attend the department for further assessment and treatment.

I am delighted to hear that when you attended the department you had a positive experience, finding staff to be reassuring, compassionate and professional.

Thank you for mentioning Linda explicitly. I will ensure that this feedback is shared with her, and I know she will appreciate it. Emergency departments continue to work under significant pressure daily; positive feedback is key in reminding staff of the positive difference they continue to make despite the challenges they face.

I wish you a strong recovery

Yours Sincerely

Victoria McCrory
