"So very kind, helpful and reassuring"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Fracture Clinic Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Paediatrics Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

My 4-year-old daughter recently fractured her elbow. We went to A&E, she had an x-ray and was seen by the doctor and told that she would need to stay in Bramble ward as it was late and they wanted to operate on her in the morning.

She had the operation, which went well, then she was seen for follow up in the fracture clinic three times. She has now been discharged as the doctor is happy with the way she is progressing.

I just wanted to say that every single person from A&E reception, the doctors, nurses, radiology, theatre, recovery, bramble ward and the fracture clinic were all so very kind, helpful and reassuring.

There was hardly any waiting around (which we wouldn't have minded of course). The fact that everyone was still so helpful and kind when it was 2.30am is beyond me. If I had the ability to give you all a pay rise I would!

Thank you everyone

I am responsible for monitoring overall service delivery, and the day to day running of both departments. I work closely with the Orthopaedic Consultants, Radiologists, Therapists, Trauma Nurse Practitioners, Orthopaedic Practitioners and Nursing staff to ensure cohesive care is delivered. I am very fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff, who work extremely hard to ensure patient safety is maintained, and that clinics run as smoothly as possible.

Dear Amzly,

I am really pleased to hear that despite the fact your daughter suffered a nasty fracture which required surgical fixation, that all of the care that she received was to a high standard, and delivered with compassion.

We try to ensure that all patients attending Fracture clinic are provided with a positive experience, and that reassurance regarding Fracture management/treatment is delivered at every stage of the injury.

I will ensure that your kind feedback is shared with the entire team as it really does make a difference to all staff involved when their hard work is acknowledged and appreciated.

Wishing your daughter a continued recovery, and hopefully she can enjoy the remainder of the summer!

Kind regards,

Julia King
