From the moment my husband, son (6 years old) and I stepped onto the children's ward at DGRI we knew we were in safe hands. All staff were friendly, approachable and did their best to explain the procedures and care we would receive whilst my son underwent general anaesthetic for a tonsillectomy.
A wonderful nurse named Jen accompanied my son and I to theatre and kept me informed of everything along the way. The team in theatre were so professional, all details of my son thoroughly checked. The aftercare nurse (so sorry I can't remember her name) who gave my son pain relief and seemed so concerned that he was to be made as comfortable as possible was first class.
To returning to the ward and having meal times explained and personalised, regular observations and pain management, thorough cleaning of our room, nothing was too much trouble and the staff even found time to look after me too.
Honestly, I don't know where we would be without our NHS and the wonderful people who choose to enter these professions and serve us all when we need care. They deserve medals, each and every one of them. Thank you for everything ❤️
