"Treatment for Shortness of Breath"

About: Vale of Leven General Hospital / Medical Assessment Unit (MAU)

(as the patient),

Whilst attempting to run the the West Highland Way first leg, I got really short of breath and my heart went into AF. I continued on walking to Balmaha but when I arrived I was absolutely shattered and for someone who would consider myself extremely fit this was a very scary experience. My wife insisted on driving me to the nearest hospital (Vale of Leven) and we arrived at 3.30pm.

The level of treatment and care i received from the nurses and doctors was something I have never experienced in a medical environment before. They were exceptional, truly exceptional. I had bloods taken, an X Ray done plus an ECG and all the results were relayed to me in just over an hour. I honestly can't express my gratitude to them all for their extreme professionalism and thoroughness.

I arrived very panicked and left totally reassured with a follow up plan and a referral letter for a private Echocardiogram which I booked the next day back in Northern Ireland.

I really hope someone can convey my appreciation to the girls in the Medical Assessment Unit. My wife and myself were in awe of their expert care.
