I have been suffering with a severe knee pain for over 3 years which progressively has gotten worse. Investigations prior to me seeing the consultant revealled a torn ACL, a cyst and torn meniscus.
Once I finally saw the consultant 10 months after the first visit to the physio at my GP practice ( a last minute cancellation), it was further discovered on xray that I also has severe osteo arthritis in the knee and repair of the damage was not advised. I was advised that I would need a knee replacement. At the time which was early October 2024 I was advised that I would be placed on the wait list which was 32 weeks. This felt like a long time given the amount of pain I was in but I knew wait lists were long and I had a goal to get to.I have now waited nearly 39 weeks and had my pre-op and each time I phone for an update the wait list time keeps changing. The last phone call this week has advised the list is now at 45 weeks having been 38, 40, 43 and not 45. I did ask if I could go elsewhere or do anything to bring it forward and was curtly told "No" I am aware that Orthopedic centres have been built at various hospitals across Scotland but the one at Forth Valley appears not to be in operation !I understand that things change and that there will be emergencies which will take precedence but there must be a better way to manage this. I try to do as much as I can to help myself (purchasing knee brace etc ) but Im at my limitEach time to be told something different is soul destroying for me, I am in constant pain and my life is now limited by what I can do. We are unable to make any kind of plans and have been now for 18 months - so much so that my quality of life is dimishing each week.
"Orthopaedic waiting lists ever changing dates - soul destroying !"
